History of the Sauk-Prairie Eagle Inn

Darlene Burzynski opened the door to the Eagle Inn in 1984, but our history started long before.  Darlene was born and grew up in the little town of Thorp, Wisconsin.  Shortly after Darlene graduated from high school she was married to a farmer in the Thorp area and had six children.  Darlene had always dreamed of owning a restaurant and that dream became reality in 1963 when she and her husband purchased a family restaurant in Adams-Friendship called "The 400".

When Darlene and her husband parted ways, she went to work at Badger Ordinance Powder Plant in Sumpter making rocket powder.  She soon moved to the Sauk-Prairie area thereafter.  Darlene's interest in owning a restaurant was still in the back of her mind.  She worked at a few restaurants in the Sauk-Prairie area after her job at Badger Ordinance terminated and soon became the manager of the Penguin Bar and Restaurant.  A year later, she became the owner.

In 1984, Prairie du Sac was getting a facelift.  As Darlene was known for being successful in the restaurant business, Leroy Fuchs approached her about owning and managing a new restaurant in Prairie du Sac on the corner of Water Street and Hwy PF.  Darlene had kept the Penguin going successfully for 14 1/2 years in Sauk City.  Darlene made the move to the new restaurant and had a very successful business.

Darlene's grandson, Todd Baker, became a business partner in 2000.  As of 2001, Todd fully took over the business.  Darlene was going to start retiring but her cancer came back and she passed away in March of 2003.

Our hometown place to meet and eat is "nothing special" to all of us...and that's because it's "always special" to serve our customers.  That's what all of our family and extended family are here  for...to bring the same good homemade dishes that Darlene Burzynski made since 1984.  Todd's grandma baked in the goodness and taught him the secrets of her pies, rolls and breads.  Plus wonderful hot dishes and daily specials that our town has come to know and expect from the Eagle Inn.  Now, Todd, as owner of this family tradition, and it's still hard working crew keep the "Soup on" and serve you a smile with every dish.  It's our everyday cozy friendly atmosphere that lets people know it's still the same warm spot for everyone in town or traveling thru to find their way for a delicious meal morning, noon or night.
